Liaoning is a province in northeast China, it is the first Chinese province that has introduced the Charolais breed for crossbreeding with local breeds. Since 1974, 180 Charolais breeding bulls were imported from France before 1990, then North America (1990-2005) and Australia. The crossing has improved characteristics of local breeds in terms of growth rate, feed efficiency and carcass conformation. A new breed, Liaoyubai was created by the crossbred cattle of the 4th generation. This breed was recognized in 2009 by the Chinese state. The main mission of the Liaoning cattle breeding center is to produce and distribute frozen semen of the Liaoyubai race from 42 selected bulls. Other provinces in northeast China have worked more on crossbreeding with the Simmental breed but now desire Charolais genetics to improve their beef performance. The Liaoning cattle breeding center intends to collaborate with the Sino-French beef production Research and Development center to improve Charolais breed utilization in northeast China.
